Why Should We Adopt a School?

The future of India is in the hands of children. And it depends upon the quality of education imparted to our children. It is the joint responsibility of the Government and citizens to improve school education, by providing incentives like mid-day meals, improve school infrastructure in all the Government schools in our state.Majority of Indians are the products of Government schools. These schools are a linchpin of the Indian educational system, accounting for 70% of Pre-Primary and Primary Schools and Secondary Schools.

What We Do

We at Aakanksha Foundation, under the "Adopt a School" program, transforms the lives of underprivileged rural children by making a holistic, high quality, education accessible and affordable to them. Here we will adopt the school where minimum facilities are not present at the basic level. Accordingly, we select any school and prepare a 'program of action' for a specific period or permanent adoptionfor the all-round development of the school or select specific areas of intervention aimed at improving the educational system of the school.

The following are the facilities to be implemented in an adopted school.

  • Provision of water and toilet facilities to the school separately for boys and girls.
  • Construction and renovation of existing building.
  • Provision for developing school garden, fencing or compound wall.
  • Provision of equipment and furniture.
  • Providing computers/funding for computer training of students.
  • Strengthening of Laboratory and Library.
  • Developing of play-ground/provision of play materials.
  • Training of teachers to improve quality of teaching.
  • Training of students to develop various skills, leadership, etc.
  • Sponsoring students/ teachers for educational visits/sports meets.
  • Adopting girl children/SC-ST and minority children.
  • Sponsoring cultural, literary and scientific activities in the school.
  • Providing nutritional food as mid-day meals to children.
  • Encouraging vocational job oriented activities as part of co-curricular activities.
  • Involving parents in development activities of the school.

The above are likely to enhance motivation of the government school teachers and students to be regular to school by making learning and teaching far more interesting and effective. This will result in several thousands of children benefitting from a meaningful education, transforming their lives. And mainly we can control the school dropout ratio.

Operation Blackboard

This scheme launched in 1987, is aimed at improving the school environment and enhancing retention and learning achievement of children by providing minimum essential facilities in all primary schools. The scheme has brought about a remarkable quantitative and qualitative improvement in primary education.

Our Adopted School

We, Aakanksha Foundation in association with Lions Club of Hyderabad Capital, has adopted government school situated at Bommanagandi, Saroornagar. After adoption, we have provided basic amenities, sports kits, music system, water purifier etc. We have constructed separate toilets for girls and boys. We are preparing and providing mid-day meals in our school premises only so that food will be in good quality. We also have Anganwadi class in our school premises.

Our vision of school adoption program is to convert backward rural and urban Government schools into Model Schools in 3 years of time so that they are on par with the best run city schools in terms of infrastructure and performance.

What You Can Do

We earnestly request you to make quality school education a reality in India. The children of our country need us now. If you would like to adopt a government school or provide any above said facility or infrastructure, join hands to provide a safe and comfortable second home for our children.
